Liverpool Performing Arts Festivals – Music 2008 – St Georges Hall

March 11th, 2008 by blogadmin

We would like to congratulate all the children who took part in the Liverpool Competitive Festival of Music last week, both the Ocarina Ensemble on Wednesday and the School Choir on Thursday. They performed beautifully, and two of the stewards at St. George’s Hall approached us to say how impeccably the children had behaved – they were a real credit to you and to the school!!The children worked very hard over last half-term and we would also like to take this opportunity to thank all parents for their support and encouragement.

For those of you who did not participate … the ocarinas came 2nd in their class, gaining a silver medal. The choir also came 2nd with a silver medal in the Primary Choir Class and came 1st in the Hymn Singing Class, winning a gold medal and a beautiful modern glass award which was specially commissioned to celebrate Liverpool being the Capital of Culture 2008 … and which we get to keep.

With many thanks

Mrs. Bennett and Mrs. Cowan.

N.B. (i)  Instrumental tuition will restart straight after Easter.

(ii)  Choir and Ocarina Rehearsals will restart after Easter at

             the beginning of Week 2.

Holocaust Memorial Concert – Prines Road Synagogue – Sunday 20th January

The school choir went to Princes Road Synagogue on Sunday, to watch and perform in a Holocaust Memorial Concert.  It was a very moving experience.  Candles were lit by concentration camp survivors, in memory of those who died, who do not have families to remember them.  The children then sang two songs ‘Esai Ainai’ and ‘We Are The Young’.  The remainder of the evening was given to a Polish actor/singer, Yaacov Shapiro who read poems and sang songs of the Polish ghettos.  He also told everybody his very tragic life story as a survivor of the Lodz Ghetto.

Our children sang beautifully.  Many people came up to the staff of Sudley to congratulate the choirs performance and their excellent behaviour.   They were a credit to the school.
